Because Halloween Is Just Around The Corner...

What better way to celebrate the Halloween festivities than shooting up bloody brains? Yum yum. The "brain" part is actually Bailey's Irish Cream (hmmm, Baileys...) that has curdled up because of lime juice.

Make your own bloody brain shooters! Here's the recipe:

Ingredients:

1 1/4 oz. strawberry vodka such as Stoli
1/8 oz. Rose’s lime juice
3/4 oz. Bailey’s Irish Cream
Splash of grenadine

Preparation:

Chill vodka for better smoothness. Add vodka and lime juice to a shaker, shake and strain into a shot glass. Using a straw, dip some Bailey’s Irish Cream into the shot. Once you submerge the straw into the Bailey’s put your finger on top of the straw to hold the Bailey’s in the straw. Dip the straw tip into the vodka and slowly release your top finger. The Bailey’s will curdle a little bit due to the lime juice and you should be able to make strands of Bailey’s.

Repeat the straw/Bailey’s process to build a “brain” in the shot glass. Add a splash of grenadine to the concoction to add the ‘blood’ to the mix. Down the hatch as a shot.

Cheap Stress Reliever Is Available Online

Come on...I know you love the sound of popping bubble wrap! It's actually a great stress reliever because it helps you redirect all that work-related stress from your head down to your two thumbs. Pop, pop, pop! Recently, a bubble wrap application for iPhone was developed, making popping available anywhere you go. But not everyone has iPhone (like me, who's majorly dependent on PC-based gadgets), right?

Fret no more! Just bookmark the VIRTUAL BUBBLEWRAP site on your computer and your good for another round of stress-busting during coffee breaks! Click here to visit the site.

Hurray for bubble wrap poppers the world over!

Touchable Holography

I must admit--the Japanese seem to always think two steps ahead of everyone else. While most people are still innovating on current hologram technology, the Japs are putting it to the next level--by letting users feel the 3D images! And they're using Wii sensors and air to help them achieve it.

Don't believe me? Watch the video below:

Now I'm really wondering what's next from here...

Megachurches

Online magazine SLATE has compiled a list of megachurches (and when I say megachurches, I do mean houses of God that could house tens of thousands of people at a time) and put it in a nifty slideshow complete with information about the infrastructures.

The image below is one of the 10 photos included in the slideshow:

Slate says:

The 16,000-seat sanctuary of Lakewood Church in Houston (at right), the nation's largest nondenominational congregation, has padded theater seats instead of wooden pews, a stage instead of an altar, and video projection screens instead of stained-glass windows. Hardly a classic place of worship, although the expansive expression of religious community in this vast space is as impressive, in its way, as any soaring medieval nave.

16,000! It's like a concert crowd! I could hear the roaring of the crowd from where I'm typing.

Life After Advertising In The Age of Recession

I will watch this, I swear. This is an eye-opener. It is estimated that in the advertising industry, over 70,000 people have been laid off due to economic problems. The recession has hit and crippled all industries, and some of the people who are used to working lucrative jobs are now forced to make ends meet doing odd jobs left and right.

Watch the trailer--and see how the people who were then paid to be creative are now applying their creativity in their own lives.

You texted me that last night!

What would you do if you unknowingly sent a message with rather questionable motives/content at the height of your drinking spree, something like this:

If this happened to me, I may just be sending my human-generated error to the Texts From Last Night (TFLN) website!

According to the website:

TFLN was founded in February 2009 by two friends for reasons that may or may not include: the tendency to press send more easily as the night turns to morning, friends social habits, Kwame Kilpatrick, exes, law school, closing down bars and leaving tabs open, general debauchery and/or a common disgust for all the negativity surrounding the "sexting" phenomenon.

Our goal is to create a site that was revealing in nature while concealing the identity of everyone involved. This is why we only ask for an area code to accompany your text messages.

If you think the featured message above is already funny, wait till you see the other submitted entries! Click here to read the rest!

Lessons From The Top 10 Brands Explained In A Sentence

I know, the title was a mouthful. But how else am I going to explain, in a nutshell, the Good Brands Report made by PSFK and The Purple List? Haha :D The sentences are quite amusing, really.

Here are three of the brands (my personal picks, actually) that made the list:

Google
Experiment rapidly, embrace failure.

Facebook
Create the playground and let your customers define your offering.

Skype
Reach scale with free product, make money from premium services.

DOS attacks on Facebook and Twitter

Why anyone would want to hack on Twitter and Facebook (other than cripple its capabilites to generate huge revenues from its services) is really beyond my understanding. Unless of course these hackers really want to get close with Britney Spears or aplusk Ashton Kutcher.

BBC News reports that:

The strike was aimed at a pro-Georgian blogger known as Cyxymu. The attack caused a blackout of Twitter for around two hours, while Facebook said its service had been "degraded".
Google said it had defended its sites and was now working with the other companies to investigate the attack.

[The] attack appears to be directed at an individual who has a presence on a number of sites, rather than the sites themselves," a Facebook spokesman told BBC News.

It has been reported earlier that a Hacker has been able to break through Twitter's security without even really hacking the site--just guessing a random Twitter employee's password.
Now you know why it's important to have a strong password.

Stunning Silhouette Photography

Why are silhouette photos so irresistably charming? Personally, I think it's because there's a lot of stories to share behind the black-and-white splashes or the black-and-yellow combinations. I am undeniably drawn closer to silhouette photos whenever I look at them, and there's this feeling of wanting to know more about how the image was taken, just like in the photo below:

Don't you just want to know why the man is holding balloons in the dark?

That's just one sample of stunning silhouette photography; there's actually more where that came from, and Digital Picture Zone has 30 of that to share. Click here to see the other photos.

Penguin Hazard

I can't believe that something as cute and seemingly innocent as that penguin toy can actually be hazardous (to kids). In 2008 this toy has been recalled by the US Consumer Safety Product Commission (wow that's a mouthful) for being a potential laceration hazard.

How anyone can get lacerated by this toy is beyond my comprehension, but then I have to hand it to the perkyness of kids these days, that almost everything on their path becomes dangerous.

Cute penguin, why'd you have to be deadly? Haha.

Mickey Mouse Tron

And since I have previously blogged about Mickey Mouse and Tron, here's a mashup!

Tron Legacy in 2010!

The legacy is back!
Tron Legacy is the sequel to the 1982 film Tron (which, if you check online, actually has a lot of loyal following...consider it a cult movie!) I wasn't even born yet when the film was made. And it's taken quite long to make a part II but what the heck--I'm an 80s kid and I'll be one of the excited people to watch out for this movie!
Oh I'm super excited all right!

Smile Though Your Day Is Crumbling...

Admittedly, it's not really easy to flash a smile when you're in the middle of a chaos, like working inside a train station. But for people in Japan, not smiling is almost a crime! And because of that (coupled with classic Japanese ingenuity), they created the Smile Scanner. I am betting it has the same principle/technology behind the Smile Shutter function of the newer Sony Ericsson mobile phones and Sony Cyber-shot digital cameras, wherein it actually looks for your smile. Only then will you be able to click.

So why is smiling a prerequisite in the Japanese train system?

Japan’s Keihin Express Railway Co. has set up “smile scanners” at 15 of its stations, where railway employees have their smiles assessed by software in the hopes of perfecting a customer-friendly look.

Some of the busiest train stations in the world have installed computerised 'smile scanners' to help employees deliver a better service.'

Well, forcing people to smile is really something. But if it's for the sake of achieving satisfactory customer feedback, then let's all hold a peace sign, smile, and say "kawaii!!!"

The Ten Commandments of Facebook...

...and that's according to TremendousNews! This list is hilarious so you may want to check it out. This one really cracked me up:

7. I will not make my profile picture a picture of myself when I was a baby.
Yeah, you were an okay-looking kid. There’s nothing grotesque about you, which is disappointing. But all kids look the same and you’re old now. Stop trying to recapture your fleeting youth by pretending you’re six again. Also, I refuse to engage in a serious wall-to-wall conversation with an eight year-old boy in a sweater-vest sitting on a staircase. Why do all baby pictures take place on a staircase?

An iPhone Lost Is A Life Lost...

This is just sad.

I can understand the strict security measures with new product releases. But I don't think it has to end this way:

SHENZHEN, China — When a closely guarded prototype of a new Apple iPhone went missing at a huge factory here two weeks ago, an internal investigation focused on a shy, 25-year-old employee named Sun Danyong.

Mr. Sun, a college graduate working in the logistics department, denied stealing the iPhone. But he later complained to friends that he had been beaten and humiliated by the factory’s security team. On the night he was questioned, he sent an anguished text message to his girlfriend.

“Dear, I’m sorry. Go back home tomorrow,” he wrote, according to a message she later posted online. “I ran into some problems. Don’t tell my family. Don’t contact me. I’m begging you for the first time. Please do it! I’m sorry.”

Soon after, in the early-morning hours of July 16, Mr. Sun apparently jumped to his death from the 12th floor of an apartment building in what his employer, Foxconn Technology, says was a suicide.

Apple and Foxconn, one of the world’s biggest manufacturers of consumer electronics and a major Apple supplier, issued statements last week expressing sorrow for the death. Foxconn said it suspended one security officer, pending a police investigation, and that the company was now considering counseling services for its employees.

What?! No two raindrops are alike?!

Well, not that I'd be surprised. Being a hobbyist photographer who loves macro photography at its finest, I have always known that raindrops vary in size and shapes. It's just that simple for me. But some scientists think otherwise :-) They have finally figured out the science behind the variations on size and shapes of these raindrops:

As If They Never Really Left Us

What would be the best way to remember your dearly departed loved ones?

By wearing jewelry with pieces of their human remains! But save yourself the panic attack because we're not talking gore stuff here.
Anna Schwamborn, a design student, has created a range of jewelry containing post-mortem memorial pieces which include hair and cremated ashes taken from a corpse. (See sample below)

According to Schwamborn herself:

The objects are supposed to be worn close to the body of the mourner symbolizing a lasting physical connection between two individuals even after death. This collection is supposed to remind the wearer on the fragility and appreciation of life and most importantly, acting as a keepsake.

To see more of Anna Schwamborn's "everlasting" jewelry, click here.

This would probably make interesting conversations at cocktail parties.

Webcams for Music Video

Here's a very interesting music video from Sour. Sour is a Japanese post-rock band formed in spring 2002 by hoshijima (gut guitar/voice), Sohey (eub/bass), KENNNNN (drums/toys). The video for their single 'Hibi no Neiro' (Tone of everyday) from their first mini album 'Water Flavor EP' was made with the help of their own fans. The cast were selected from the actual Sour fan base, of which many are from outside of Japan. Dig this: each person and scene was filmed purely via webcam.

So how did low-res webcam videos made this particular music video very interesting? Well, watch and see:

The Other Use of Personal Computers

Youtube Vigilance

The things that we capture and upload...who knew that one of them will help bring justice to a person who was stripped of human rights in a rally in 2008?

The news from New York Daily News states:

"Victim in one of most popular YouTube "gotcha's" of 2008 sues NYPD for $1.5 million
The biker who was shoved by an NYPD officer during a "critical mass" rally last year, only to find a video of the incident uploaded to YouTube by a bystander, is now suing the NYPD for $1.5 million. Though the officer originally claimed that the biker had provoked the altercation during the rally, the video - which racked up over 2 million views - demonstrates otherwise."

The victim's lawyer was quoted as saying that "nobody would have cried foul if it wasn't for that video."

Here's the controversial video, which got 2 million views. 2 million views just can't be wrong, you know.

8 Bit Music

Are you an 80s child who grew up loving computer games like Goonies and Super Mario? Or were you a Game Boy slave in the 90s? If yes then you'd probably have a place in your heart for 8 Bit Music, otherwise known as chipstyle sounds. Can't figure out what I'm talking about? I couldn't embed the song file here but you can click here to listen to the music sampler. Prepare to be taken back to the good old days...

The song is produced by Random, and you can view his artist profile by clicking here. He is one of the 11 crew of this cool website 8BitPeoples, where their ultimate goal is to "just have fun".

According to the website:

"The 8bitpeoples first came together in 1999 as a collective of artists sharing a common love for classic videogames and an approach to music which reflected this obsession. Our primary interests were to provide quality music for free and most importantly to have fun."

But then you've got to see it to believe it. So go check the site.

Random also has his own website so don't forget to check it out: Random.se
